Exploring The Oxy-Fuel Combustion In Spark-Ignition Engines For Future Clean Powerplants

چکیده

Abstract In the context of CO2 challenge, oxy-fuel combustion in internal engines (OFC-ICE) arises as a promising technology for carbon capture and almost zero-NOx solutions. Although literature shows some experimental theoretical works on OFC-ICE, there is lack systematic studies dealing with dilution strategies or where non-synthetic EGR used. Using combination 0D-1D CFD modeling measurements, oxygen (λ > 1) real single-cylinder spark-ignition OFC-ICE here assessed, considering thermo-mechanical limitations knocking. Results show that an strategy more appropriate than O2 dilution. A slightly poor mixture near stoichiometric conditions, rates around 70%, reduces NOx 99%, CO uHC up to 90% respect conventional ICE. It concluded has lower knocking propensity, thus allowing increase compression ratio partially compensate expected efficiency diminution about 4 percentage points.

Chaotic combustion in spark ignition engines

We analyse the combustion process in a spark ignition engine using the experimental data of an internal pressure during the combustion process and show that the system can be driven to chaotic behaviour. Our conclusion is based on the observation of unperiodicity in the time series, suitable stroboscopic maps and a complex structure of a reconstructed strange attractor. This analysis can explai...

Controlling Cyclic Combustion Variations in Lean-Fueled Spark-Ignition Engines

Under conditions of lean fueling or high exhaust gas recirculation, interactions between residual cylinder gas and freshly injected fuel and air produce undesirable combustion instabilities in spark-ignition engines. The resulting dynamics can be described as noisy bifurcations of a nonlinear map and are complicated by cylinder-to-cylinder coupling. We discuss the key dynamic features relevant ...

Cycle-to-cycle Fluctuations of Burned Fuel Mass in Spark Ignition Combustion Engines

We examine a simple, fuel-air, model of combustion in spark ignition (si) engine with indirect injection. In our two fluid model, variations of fuel mass burned in cycle sequences appear due to stochastic fluctuations of a fuel feed amount. We have shown that a small amplitude of these fluctuations affects considerably the stability of a combustion process strongly depending on the quality of a...

Alternative Fuels for Spark Ignition Engines

In order to reduce the atmospheric pollution emitted by automobiles, control devices are being incorporated in the vehicles in many countries. This has resulted in a reduced vehicle mileage to the extent of about fifteen percent. Without the introduction of new technology, any further reduction in emission levels would be expected to extract payment in the form of further fuel economy losses. I...
